„Dear friends,
This time TIFR witnessed its most widely participated chess tournament so farâand what a fascinating tournament it was!! We are happy to announce that the new chess champions of TIFR are Stephan and Swapnil.
Fifteen chess enthusiasts ranging from school students to visiting professors matched their skills in the battle over 64 squares. After 5 rounds, there was a three-way tie for first place between Seshadri, Stephan and Swapnil. Seshadri lost in the tie-break that followed, but Stephan and Swapnil were were again tied for the first spot. Another round of games were held between Stephan and Swapnil, and the result was still a tie!! At this point, the players had been playing for over 6 hours and were mentally exhausted. So instead of playing some more matches to come up with a singular winner, the prize for first and second place (My Great Predecessors, Vol 1 & 2) was awarded to both of them.
